That idea stayed in our minds and conversations for about 15 years until we actually started Skull & Bones. This was about 20 years ago, when we were both just starting our lives together. I mentioned we should make a men’s underwear line, as one of my passions was finding better quality, cut and fitted underwear. It was during that conversation when he mentioned that it was his passion to start his own fashion line. he was so excited from his first day and was telling me about his experiences.

He had just gotten his first job at a fashion company after recently graduating from F.I.T. Pilato: Creating an underwear line for men came from a conversation I had with my husband - then boyfriend -years ago.

METROSOURCE: How does a person decide to get into a highly competitive market like underwear? I know you also create other items of clothing, but that’s really your focus, right? We caught up with Pilato long enough to ask a few questions about how - and why - someone would jump into such a competitive field. Both founders grew up in NYC, which they regard as “the epicenter of fashion and design.” As co-owners they are involved in every element of their business, from counting inventory to answering customer emails. Unlike some, Skull & Bones is a self-funded company. By utilizing their expertise in product development and production, with their sense of style and industry knowledge, hey reimagined men’s underwear. Pilato and his business partner started working on Skull & Bones in 2014, then launched their first collection online in November a year later. Hidden TreasureĬombining one founder’s expertise in the fashion industry with the other’s technology skills with their shared passion for innovation – Skull & Bones was born. In terms of men’s clothing, it’s one of the most competitive areas in the industry. Over time, underwear has become a fashion for some, fetish for others and function for all the rest. Underwear has come a long way from the ’60s tighty-whities and the sports heroes of the ’70s trying to convince straight men that wearing colored briefs under their pants did not, in fact, make them gay.īut for gay men, those shorts were only a harbinger of things to come. The model is Dalton Jackson and photography by Harol Baez.Vincent Pilato, founder of the Skull & Bones brand known for its cutting edge fashion, knows a thing or two about what’s going on behind men’s pants. In one of them you can see a preview of the print the brand is probably going to release very soon. Keep an eye on this brand, something tells us that we will see a lot more of them in the future…Įnjoy below some of their campaign images with the new underwear of Skull & Bones. In this first release of their launch collection you will find classic colours such as black, white and grey but there will be more colours and prints added in the new year. See for example the back of their “Classic” trunks with the rounded seam and the logo printed in the middle, or the defining seam at the rear of their “Fashion” trunks and their “Athletic” boxer briefs. At a first glance they look pretty much straight forward but at a closer look you can see all the details that Skull & Bones has incorporated into their designs to make them stand out. But is it not just the fabrics that intrigued us to write a post about this brand. We know that most of you are aware of the benefits of each of these fabrics and many of you have tried them already and know what they feel like. They appeal to all modern and fashion conscious men who are looking for a combination of high quality fabrics and modern underwear designs.Ī quick look at the fabrics they chose was enough to convince us that the brand has put a lot of time and effort in creating a great initial underwear collection: Modal, Supima Cotton and Carbon Fiber. Skull & Bones was founded on the belief that a men’s underwear company can create exciting and luxurious basics at an affordable price. The brand is based in NYC and they officially launched last month. Today we will show you a new men’s underwear brand called Skull & Bones.
